Scholarships - 2004/5 Academic Year

| The
scholarships available are outlined below.
Students who are awarded a scholarship will
receive the appropriate reduction in their
tuition fees in their first year of study
(2004/05 academic year only). |
| SUBJECT-BASED
SCHOLARSHIPS |
Two
scholarships worth 1,500 (postgraduate or
research) and one scholarship worth 1,000
(undergraduate) will be awarded in each of
the subject areas listed below:
· Health
· Education
· Arts
· Social Sciences
· Sports Sciences and Psychology
· Biomedical and Applied Sciences
· Design.
Overseas students who have overseas fee status
from any country outside the European Union
may apply. |
| ELIGIBILITY
CRITERIA |
In
order to apply for one of the above scholarships,
you must meet the following additional eligibility
criteria:
· You are planning to begin an eligible course
at the University in the 2004/05 academic
year and have accepted your conditional or
unconditional place on the course.
·You are classified for fees purposes as an
"overseas" - ie non European Union
- student.
Eligible courses are full-time courses of
at least one year's duration. This includes
undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes
based at the University but does not include
English Language at Northumbria (ELAN), presessional
courses, exchange programmes, short courses,
distance learning courses, or any courses
conducted outside the UK.
All students who have obtained an offer (conditional
or unconditional) will need to apply for a
scholarship by completing the scholarship
form and submitting it by 30 June 2004 (for
Semester 1 entry); and by 30 November (for
Semester 2 entry). Students who have not obtained
exam results by this date will be considered
on the basis of academic performance to date.
Students applying later than this date cannot
be considered or offered a scholarship.
Scholarships are limited in number and selection
will be based on outstanding academic merit
and English language proficiency. Non-academic
achievements may also be taken into account,
such as:
· extra-curricular activities at work/college/university
· charitable or voluntary work
· involvement in professional activities.

| OTHER
ISSUES |
·
Scholarships cannot be awarded for the ELAN
programme but students currently on ELAN may
apply if they are commencing a degree programme
in 2004/5.
·No student can be awarded more than one scholarship
or bursary.
· Scholarships are awarded for the 2004/5
academic year only.
· Scholarships cannot be awarded where the
2004/5 academic year is spent on a work placement.
· Applicants cannot apply for a scholarship
until they have applied for a course, received
an offer letter and accepted their place on
a course.
· Scholarship application forms will be automatically
sent to applicants who are eligible to apply
for a scholarship. |
